| A Message From... |
Mrs. Shumate |
I have been a life long parishioner of St. Vivian. I also graduated from St. Vivian School. My degree is in Early Childhood Education. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati. My past experiences include being a head Kindergarten teacher at Center Hill Child Development Center, and a Kindergarten Aid at St. Vivian. Both of these positions have given me a good foundation for my current position as a First Grade teacher. First Grade is such an exciting year in the development of a child. I enjoy seeing the tremendous growth in each student throughout the year.

| Happy Catholic Schools week!
Over the next few weeks, we will continue working on long vowel sounds and ending blends. We will continue poetry and begin adding to our poetry folder weekly. I will also be introducing Accelerated Reading within the next month. We will first begin taking tests as a class and then allow individual students to take weekly tests on their own. More information will be coming home about both additions.
The second half of the year will be fast paced. Many exciting things will be happening as we turn the corner towards second grade. It is an exciting time! |

Tuesday: Reading or Phonics
Thursday: Grammar or Writing
(Mrs. Borgman will assign homework on Monday and Wednesday night. We will not have homework over the weekend.)
Please read with your child EVERY evening. Even if your child does not feel like reading to you, take the time to read a favorite book TO THEM. You are never to old to read a good book with someone you love!!!! THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF LEARNING TO READ IS TO READ OFTEN AND TO MAKE IT FUN!!!!
