| A Message From... |
Mrs. Shumate |
I have spent most of my life at St. Vivian. I was baptized at this church, went to grade school at St. Vivian, got married at St. Vivian, baptized my second child here, and both of my sons graduated from St. Vivian School. I also graduated from St. Vivian. I attended Our Lady of Angels High School and then attended The University of Cincinnati with a degree in Early Childhood Education. My past experiences include being a head Kindergarten teacher at Center Hill Child Development Center, and a Kindergarten Assistant at St. Vivian. Both of these positions have given me a good foundation for my current position as a First Grade teacher. First Grade is such an exciting year in the development of a child. I enjoy seeing the tremendous growth in each student throughout the year.

Happy New Year!
Welcome back! The second half of our year is sure to busy and exciting.
I hope everyone had fun with Flat Stanley. I am so excited to see the pictures of his adventures and even more excited to read about the children's adventures after our first writing assignment of the year!
Ready...Set...Read!
Reminder - all first graders should read 15 minutes every night. If they are too tired to read to you....snuggle -and read a favorite book to them. After you are done reading a story, ask your child to retell the story in their own words. Make sure they are telling the story in the correct sequence and focus on the important parts of the story!
Happy Reading!

Tuesday: Reading or Phonics
Thursday: Grammar or Writing
(Mrs. Borgman will assign homework on Monday and Wednesday night. We will not have homework over the weekend.)
Please read with your child EVERY evening. Even if your child does not feel like reading to you, take the time to read a favorite book TO THEM. You are never to old to read a good book with someone you love!!!! THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF LEARNING TO READ IS TO READ OFTEN AND TO MAKE IT FUN!!!!
