A Message From...
Mrs. Shumate

I have spent most of my life at St. Vivian.  I was baptized at this church, went to grade school at St. Vivian, got married at St. Vivian, baptized my second child here, and both of my sons graduated from St. Vivian School. I also graduated from St. Vivian. I attended Our Lady of Angels High School and then attended The University of Cincinnati with a degree in Early Childhood Education. My past experiences include being a head Kindergarten teacher at Center Hill Child Development Center, and a Kindergarten Assistant at St. Vivian. Both of these positions have given me a good foundation for my current position as a First Grade teacher. First Grade is such an exciting year in the development of a child. I enjoy seeing the tremendous growth in each student throughout the year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Wow!  We had a terrific start to the year. There is so much to remember about first grade...most of our time was spent explaining how our daily routine works and getting to know one another.

A highlight of our week was meeting our big buddies.  We will send a note home next week indicating your child's 8th grade big buddy or buddies.  In the meantime, your child will be happy to tell you about our fun day getting know their new 8th grade friends.

The big question of the week is "When are we getting homework?".  We will begin assigning homework next week.  Mrs. Borgman will assign homework on Monday and Wednesday and I will assign homework on Tuesday and Thursday.  Please keep in mind, most of the work assigned in the first few weeks will be review.  Don't worry...things will progress quickly.

I can't wait to get our first FULL week started.  Please send me an email if you have any questions or concerns.  Your children are all special and I can't wait to get to know them better throughout the year.
