MOMENTS WITH MR. Z

We have had a Great Catholic Schools' Week! On behalf of our kids and staff, I would like to thank ALL of You for your continued support of St. Vivian and Catholic education! I think everyone enjoyed "Wacky-Tacky Day" on Monday and we had some great outfits to enjoy on this day! On Wednesday, we honored Sister Mary Beth Peters as our Distinguished Graduate for 2012. Sister has spent 35 years in social work helping others. We are very proud of her and all of our St. V. grads!

We will hold our second round of Parent-Teacher Conferences in two weeks. You should have received a notice advising you of conferences. We look forward to meeting with you to further discuss your child's progress. Please be sure to return the conference form. Thanks!

Mother Nature still seems to be confused with our weather! Yes, it was close to sixty (60*) degrees this week and we are just starting February! I know we still have two more months of winter and we are way below our average annual snow fall. I wonder what February and March will bring? Anyway, enjoy the warmer weather while we have it. Spring Training for our Cincinnati Reds starts in a couple weeks!

Have a Super Bowl Weekend!
Peace and Blessings!

Mr.Z.
Stephen J. Zinser, Principal

EVERYBODY COUNTS - MARCH 5-9
Everybody Counts is a program that helps our kids to see disabilities and differences in a positive light.  It helps them to see that even though someone might not be able to do something, they can do something else that maybe we can't even do.  Each grade level focuses on a different topic, and we need your help.  This is  parent-driven activity (PTA sponsored) so I need at least 3 volunteers per grade level.  Consider giving an hour of your time to help out in your child's class. No training is necessary-- all the information/materials are provided.  Please call or email me if you are able to help.  Thank you for your support.  For questions or information, please contact Lisa Renken 772-6996 or lrenken@hotmail.com.

Parish - Introductions to the Readings

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 5
First Reading: Job 7: 1-4, 6-7
The Book of Job is a long parable which grapples with why bad things happen to good people. This question was especially crucial to people of that time because they didn't believe in life after death, and therefore one received reward or punishmnt in this life. Job has lost his children, his property and his health, and he lives at the city dump. In this passage, he gives an understandably pessimistic evaluation of life.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 9: 16-19, 22-23
Paul's enemies frequently criticized him for the least little thing. At a time when most teachers received compensation from those they instructed, Paul was criticized because he refused financial support from the community. Because of this, they discredited him as not being a legitimate apostle. Today we hear his response.

Parish - Respect Life

"How can one morally accept laws that permit the killing of a human being not yet born, but already alive in the mother's womb? The right to life becomes an exclusive prerogative of adults who even manipulate legislatures in order to carry out their own plans and pursue their own interests."

Pope Blessed John Paul II

Community

The Springfield Township Board of Trustees released an informational fire levy video today on YouTube, Facebook and to Waycross Community Media. The purpose of this 8 minute video is to introduce the upcoming levy that will appear on the March 6, 2012 ballot. Issue 5 is a 1 mill, 5 year levy that would provide the necessary funds to operate the Springfield Township Fire Department at its current level of service. The funds generated could only be used for fire and emergency medical services. The department's last levy passed in 2001, expecting to last five years. Through effective management, EMS billing and results oriented budgeting the department has exceeded the expected life of the levy. An estimated $200,000 in revenue that the Fire Department received in the past will be lost due to the recent tax withholding by the state of Ohio combined with lower industrial property values. Employees in the department have agreed to a 3 year salary freeze, reduced insurance benefits and reform in overtime pay. Even with these cuts, the levy is still needed. More information on the Springfield Township fire levy can be heard at the upcoming State of the Township community address on February 26 th

We ask that you please take 10 minutes of your day to be better informed on the levy and mark your calendar to vote on March 6th

Food for Thought

It is frustrating when the simple pleasure of making it all night without getting up is overshadowed by the fact that you really did not sleep that long anyway because you went to bed so late.
